Genuine Value for Money
Don’t compromise your holiday enjoyment and satisfaction by settling for a tour
that seems to have it all. Choose wisely and carefully and compare our inclusions,
quality and standards before making your final decision.
In today’s marketplace, competition is high – itineraries and prices appear
similar and there may be a confusing array of information. Naturally price plays
an important part in determining your choice and we recommend that you carefully
compare tour contents and inclusions before making your final decision. Although
tours may seem similar, in reality there can be many differences which at first
are not apparent. Differences in hotel standards and the number of hotel nights
(we use overnight trains only when necessary as a part of the journey, not as a
cost-saving on hotel room nights as an alternative), differences between sole use
or shared transport for sightseeing, included meals, internal flights, site entry
fees, between a compulsory tipping charge or allowing personal choice in showing
your appreciation, and the inclusion of those little ‘extras’ – like a higher
quality of venues and shows for evening entertainment, perhaps an unscheduled exploration
of bazaars and backstreet markets – that can add so much to your experience
of China. You need to know you are choosing a tour that will show you the major
sights of this diverse country, without overlooking the opportunities to observe
and be part of the daily life of the people. You need to be confident that your
programme provides genuine value and be assured that arrangements will operate as
smoothly as they can.
Accommodation
We have selected 4 star and 5 star hotels that are of a higher standard and in better
locations than is usual for your average group tour. These hotels have been carefully
chosen and provide you with good quality breakfasts to start your day.
Most importantly, you and your family will know exactly where you will stay before
you leave and what standard of accommodation you have paid for. We do not leave
this to be decided by the Chinese operator upon your arrival in each city, and nor
do we feature hotel images that might represent the standard of accommodation but
are not the hotels actually provided in your tour.
Careful Planning
Our trips are carefully planned, taking account of the varying fitness and stamina
levels among a group of travellers, to find the perfect balance between travelling
time, activities and leisure.
As China has so much to offer, short-term visitors who stick to the well-trodden
tourist track are unlikely to encounter ‘real’ locals. We have designed most tours
to include 4 nights or more in Beijing, and 2 nights or more in Shanghai, to allow
plenty of time to fully appreciate all the attractions. Whether you are a lover
of the arts, architecture, gourmet dining, shopping, nature, parks and gardens –
or just an avid peoplewatcher – there is something for everyone!
Extensive Experience & Expert Local Knowledge
It takes experience and excellent local knowledge to guarantee satisfaction and
our record speaks for itself. Since 1977 our team has been involved in hotel management
and tourism training in China, and arranging travel on all levels and throughout
wide areas of this far-flung land. Our comprehensive experience and the depth of
knowledge has earned us a renowned reputation for expertise that recognises Helen
Wong’s Tours as THE China specialist amongst travel industry colleagues, the general
public and the travel media.
Guaranteed Comfort and ‘Hassle-Free’
Whether you are a regular traveller or an adventurer of any age group, we offer
you a comfortable and ‘hassle-free’ China experience at real value for money! Your
activities and hotels in each city, as developed and selected by Helen Wong’s Tours,
are clearly stated in each itinerary and will not be altered at whim by the Chinese
operators.
Exclusive Tours
Our tours are operated exclusively as Helen Wong’s Tours groups – you are
not just a member of a combined group of tourists joining a regular daily circuit
of the sights! Our sightseeing transport in all tour packages is for our use alone,
allowing us flexibility and the convenience of travelling directly to and from our
day’s destination – we will not waste your valuable time collecting and dropping
off other tourists from various hotels. Our guide will be at your service during
your stay in each city, you will be welcomed as a friend rather than just another
passenger and be greeted personally as a valued client of Helen Wong’s Tours, not
just a number joining a tour from the hotel tour desk!
Group Size
We guarantee all group departures in this brochure based on a minimum of 10 people
unless specified and limit the number of travellers to a maximum of 25.
Tour Guides
Government regulations make it illegal for non-Chinese nationalities to act as local
tour guides in China and these rules are designed to develop and support local business
and local people. Through our long association with the local tour operators, we
are privileged to have assembled a team of responsible, knowledgeable and delightful
bilingual tour guides who, over many years, have accompanied our tours and efficiently
handled their day-today arrangements. They have wealth of intimate knowledge and
unequalled understanding of the local culture and customs. They continue to provide
an invaluable service and all possess an appreciation of the high standards we expect
to ensure your complete satisfaction.
Included Sightseeing with All Entry Fees
While competing tour packages may initially seem the same, in reality, there can
be very many differences which at first may not seem obvious. We include comprehensive
sightseeing in our itineraries, with all admission fees and guides. We feature more
“unparalleled highlights” in these areas:
- Beijing: Visit to one of the 2008 Olympic sites. Subject to being
open for public viewing
- Watch the preparation of a simple family style lunch in a Chinese courtyard home
and enjoy the meal with new friends
- An International style buffet lunch at a renowned revolving restaurant for a panoramic
city view
- A cycle-rickshaw tour of the ‘hutongs’ – ‘back alleys’ – where Chinese
life can be seen at its most traditional
- Shanghai: Visit to the Observation Deck of one of the world’s tallest
buildings
- A ride on the world’s fastest Maglev train
- Enjoy the sound and light show in the unique ‘cable car’ tunnel ride
- Chengdu: Close encounter and photo opportunity with Helen’s adorable
adopted baby panda ‘Ankali’
- Jiuzhaigou: Visit to a Tibetan family home
Included Evening Entertainment
For your enjoyment, in most programmes we have included evening cultural shows for
those tours which visit Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, Suzhou, Lijiang and Guilin.
- Beijing: The fast and exciting ‘Legend of Kung Fu’ performance
- Xian: Delightful cultural show with dinner at the Tang Dynasty
Theatre
- Shanghai: Experience the exhilaration of the world-famous acrobatic
show
- Suzhou: Enjoy a colourful local dance performance (except in winter)
- Guilin: A wonderful minority nationalities cultural show
- Lijiang: A spectacular ‘song and dance ensemble’
Meals
Most of our tours include daily breakfast and lunch. Your evening meals will be
more flexible as we have included only one dinner in each city in most tours to
allow you the chance to discover local gastronomic delights and to suit your own
taste and budget. Most of our hotels serve a buffet-style breakfast while others
may provide a choice of a set western or Chinese breakfast. We have planned your
meals to provide some balance between Chinese and Western-style lunches and dinners.
Chinese lunches usually comprise 6-8 dishes while, among included dinners, we enjoy
a Peking Duck dinner in a renowned restaurant in Beijing, and in Xian we enjoy one
of the world’s best theatre restaurants and cultural shows. Our restaurants are
carefully chosen and all are approved and monitored by the national tourism authorities
for their standard of hygiene and quality of food.
Professional and Personalised Service
We have gained an outstanding reputation for quality on our tours that has been
earned through our professionalism and personalised service. We personally oversee
all aspects of your arrangements to ensure the highest quality control.
Well-Researched Itineraries
Our long association with China and the close relationship we have with a number
of established regional operators across the country enables us to provide innovative
and well researched itineraries that reflect ever-changing travel trends and offer
the very best prices, while our attention to the small details ensures your visit
is all you expect and deserve. The research has been thoroughly undertaken before
the commencement of these tours so, while you may travel as a pioneer to some special
areas, you are certainly not a guinea pig.
Our Team
One of the main ingredients that turns a good vacation into a great one is PEOPLE.
People at your destination, people you meet during your tour and the people behind
the scenes who are totally dedicated to your travelling pleasure and comfort. With
this firmly in mind, we have assembled an elite team of China experts who possess
an intimate understanding of the intricacies of China tourism. And we are proud
to be, since 1996, the first wholly Australian-owned tour company with an office
in China.
There is so much to see and do in China and careful planning before departure will
make your trip so much more enjoyable. This website is filled with exciting destinations
throughout China and suggestions on how to see them from a different perspective.
Every tour represents not only superbly organised travel arrangements but also real
value for money.
Ultimately, the final decision is yours. We are confident that you will make the
right one.
