SUN: Australia/Beijing

Depart Australia on Cathay Pacific Airways to Beijing via Hong Kong. Transfer to Beijing International Hotel for five nights.

MON-TUE-WED-THU-FRI: Beijing

Four full days visiting sights that capture the imagination – the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, the splendours of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. See the pandas at Beijing Zoo and visit the Silk Market. Take a boat on Shishahai Lake, surrounded by princes’ houses and celebrity residences. Tour the ‘hutongs’ (back alleys) by cycle rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes look at traditional Chinese life. Spend a day at Sacred Way, the Exhibition Hall of the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall. Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner and a performance of "The Legend of Kung Fu".

FRI: Beijing/Xian

Fly to Xian and spend two nights at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel. Enjoy a cultural show with dinner at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

In Xian, marvel at archaeological wonders – the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the Chariot Exhibition, Shaanxi History Museum and the 14th century City Wall.

Fly to Guilin where you will spend two nights at the Guilin Bravo Hotel. Enjoy an evening cultural show.

MON: Li River Cruise

Take an unforgettable cruise along the Li River, a landscape of craggy mist-shrouded peaks, unusual rocks and fishermen working from bamboo rafts. At the bustling village of Yangshuo, you can browse among street stalls before joining your coach back to your hotel.

TUE: Guilin/Shanghai

Visit the Reed Flute Cave. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai where you will spend three nights at the Central Hotel. Evening acrobatic show.

WED-THU: Shanghai

See the colonial concessions along the Bund for a spectacular view of Shanghai “yesterday and today”. Enjoy the sound and light show in the tunnel ride across the Huangpu River to Pudong, stopping at Jin Mao Tower, one of the world’s tallest buildings, for a panorama of the city. Stroll the twisting alleyways of Chinatown and visit Yu Garden, followed by a river cruise. Next day enjoy a short cruise beneath stone bridges at Zhouzhuang, where tile-roofed houses crowd the canals.
