After the excitement and vitality of Shanghai it will be time to enjoy the relaxed pace of your Yangtze River Cruise and the delightful shore excursions to quaint villages and shops. From there, the serene beauty of mist shrouded peaks and the simple life of the local fishermen gives a true insight into rural life of Guilin before your tour concludes with the amazing cities of Xian and Beijing.

THU: AUSTRALIA/SHANGHAI

Depart Sydney, Melbourne and Perth on Singapore Airlines to Shanghai via Singapore. Transfer to Grand Central Hotel Shanghai for three nights. (Brisbane and Adelaide passengers depart one day earlier.)

FRI-SAT: SHANGHAI

See the colonial concessions along the Bund for a spectacular view of Shanghai “yesterday and today”. Enjoy the sound and light show in the tunnel ride across the Huangpu River to Pudong, stopping at Jin Mao Tower, one of the world’s tallest buildings, for a panorama of the city. Stroll the twisting alleyways of Chinatown and visit Yu Garden, followed by a Shanghai river cruise. Next day enjoy a short cruise beneath stone bridges at Zhouzhuang, where tile-roofed houses crowd the canals. Evening acrobatic show.

SUN: SHANGHAI/YICHANG/YANGTZE CRUISE

Fly to Yichang to embark on your Victoria Cruise ship ‘Katarina’.

MON-TUE-WED: YANGTZE RIVER

Sail the mighty Yangtze River, marvelling as steep cliffs rise from the water’s edge to form fantastically-shaped peaks. Cruise to Chongqing through the three gorges of Xiling, Wu and Qutang, the most stunning stretch of river. Shore excursions include the Three Gorges Dam site, Daning River or Shennong Stream, Wanzhou or Shibaozhai (Subject to variation due to water levels and navigation authority advice.)

THU: CHONGQING/GUILIN

Disembark at Chongqing and transfer for your flight to Guilin to spend two nights at the Sheraton Guilin Hotel. Enjoy an evening cultural show.

FRI: GUILIN

Cruise the Li River, with its craggy mist-shrouded peaks, unusual rock formations, and fishermen working from bamboo rafts. Arrive at the Yangshuo and browse street stalls before travelling back to your hotel.

SAT: GUILIN/XIAN

Fly to Xian and spend two nights at Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel Xian. Enjoy a cultural show with dinner at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

SUN: XIAN

In Xian, marvel at archaeological wonders – the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the Chariot Exhibition and Shaanxi History Museum housing over 370,000 relics from as far back as prehistoric times. Also visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda and walk the 14th century City Wall.

Fly to Beijing for five nights at Marriot City Wall hotel

TUE-WED-THU-FRI: BEIJING

Four days visiting sights that capture the imagination – the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, the splendours of the Forbidden City, plus Tiananmen Square. See the Pandas at Beijing Zoo and visit the Silk Market. Take a Shishahai Lake cruise, surrounded by princes’ houses and celebrity residences. Tour ‘hutongs’ (back alleys) by cycle rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes look at Chinese life at its most traditional. Spend a day visiting the Sacred Way, the Exhibition Hall of the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall, one of the world’s greatest wonders. Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner and a performance of ‘The Legend of Kung Fu’.
