Depart Australia on your Cathay Pacific Airways flight to Beijing. On arrival, transfer to the New Otani Hotel for four nights.
Today, visit Beijing’s most significant sights – start in the heart of the city at Tiananmen Square and continue to the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace and China’s most impressive architectural complex. Stop at the Temple of Heaven and meet the locals. Enjoy a performance of ‘The legend of Kung Fu’ this evening.

Visit China’s most iconic symbol, the Great Wall. Once you set foot on the wall, you will be in awe of the longest, oldest and most labour-intensive project in mankind’s history. En-route stop at a Jade carving workshop to learn about the Chinese Jade culture. Then head to the Summer Palace and spend your afternoon strolling through the well preserved royal garden.
This morning, explore by cycle rickshaw through the ‘hutongs’ – ‘the back alleys’ – which reveal the charms of old Beijing. Your lunch will be arranged at one of the local family homes. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. This evening, enjoy the local speciality, a Peking duck dinner.

Fly to Xian, spending two nights at the Grand Noble Hotel. Afternoon visit to the 14th Century Old City Wall. Be entertained this evening by a vibrant evening cultural performance while enjoying dinner at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

Marvel at the amazing archaeological wonders – the Terracotta Army, the Chariot Exhibition and the modern Shaanxi History Museum where you will find relics which date back to prehistoric times.
Fly to Lhasa, Tibet’s capital with an average elevation of 3700m. Stay three nights at the Xin Ding Hotel, the rest of the day is at your leisure to acclimatise yourself to the thin air.

Start your day visiting Lhasa’s cardinal landmark, the inspiring Potala Palace and then walk around the old Tibetan quarter where you can observe the lifestyle of the locals - perhaps try a cup of the famous yak butter salted tea. After lunch, continue to visit Jokhang Temple and the famous Barkhor Bazaar.
Today, see the magnificent monastery of Drepung which was once the world’s largest monastery with over 10,000 monks. Continue to Sera Monastery. Experience a local Tibetian Show whilst enjoying a special Tibetian Dinner.
Transfer to the station for your overnight train to Xining along the world’s highest elevated track.
TUE: ARRIVE XINING
Xining lies in a remote valley and is home to an intriguing mix of minority people. On arrival, transfer to the Qinghai Hotel for one night. Enjoy an afternoon excursion to the famous Ta’er Lamasery.

WED: XINING/YANGTZE CRUISE
The morning is at your leisure. Fly to Chongqing and transfer to the pier to board the Victoria Cruise ship ‘Katarina’ this evening. During your cruise, enjoy all day free tea or coffee and ‘happy hour’ free house wines and beers as part of the value added ‘Exclusive Amenity Package’.
THU: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE EXCURSION
Visit Shibaozhai, a beautiful 12-storey red pavilion which leans against the side of the hill. Return back to the cruise ship and enjoy day activities on board.
FRI: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE EXCURSION
This morning, be impressed by the steep walls and tight channels when ‘Katarina’ passes through the Wu and Qutang Gorges. One of the highlights of the Yangtze cruise will be today when you will be detouring by small boats up the ever-narrowing waters to the Goddess Stream or Shennong Stream (subject to water levels and navigation authority advice).
Visit the world’s largest construction projects - the Three Gorges Dam site. Disembark at Yichang and fly to Shanghai, staying three nights at the Central Hotel.
Spend a day exploring this gracious and cosmopolitan city. See the former Colonial Concessions along the Bund for a view of the ‘yesterday & today’ of Shanghai. Travel to Pudong and stop at the soaring Jin Mao Tower for a breathtaking panorama of the city. After a special dumplings lunch, take a stroll along the alleyways and markets of Old Chinatown, visit the finest traditional Yu Garden and enjoy a river cruis. This evening enjoy an acrobatic show.
Discover Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town with cobble stone lanes and well-preserved Ming and Qing buildings. Enjoy this charming and traditional town as you cruise along the canals beneath stone arched bridges. End the day at Tianzi Fang where many artists and local designers have set up art studios and galleries – a great chance to shop at the boutiques or relax at one of the street cafés. This evening, enjoy your farewell dinner.
Farewell China as you board the Maglev, the world’s fastest train, for a ride to the airport to join your overnight flight home.
