FRI-SAT-SUN: BEIJING
Three days visiting sights that capture the imagination – the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, the splendours of the Forbidden City, plus Tiananmen Square. See the pandas at Beijing Zoo and visit the Silk Market. Tour ‘hutongs’ (back alleys) by cycle rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes look at traditional Chinese life. Spend a day visiting the Sacred Way, the Exhibition Hall of the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall, one of the world’s greatest wonders. Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner and a performance of ‘The Legend of Kung Fu’.

In Xian, marvel at amazing archaeological wonders – the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi huang, the Chariot Exhibition, the Shaanxi History Museum and the 4th century City Wall.

WED: XIAN/ LHASA
Fly to Lhasa and spend three nights at the Tibet Hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax and acclimatise to high altitude conditions.
THU-FRI: LHASA
Visit the inspiring Potala Palace, the magnificent monasteries of Jokhang, Drepung and Sera, and savour the tranquillity of Norbulingka, former Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama. Stroll through Barkhor Bazaar in the old section of the city, observing typical Tibetan city life.
SAT: LHASA/XINING
Transfer to the station for an overnight train journey to Xining on the world’s highest railway and most elevated track.
SUN: ARRIVE XINING
Transfer to the Qinghai Hotel for one night. Enjoy a tour to the famous Ta’er Lamasery, with a history of over 400 years.
MON: XINING/CHONGQING
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Chongqing for one night at the Harbour Plaza Hotel.
TUE: CHONGQING/YANGTZE CRUISE
A full day in Chongqing before embarking on Victoria Cruise ship ‘Anna’.
WED-THU: YANGTZE CRUISE
Enjoy spectacular days sailing the mighty Yangtze River. Marvel at the breathtaking scenery as steep cliffs rise from the water’s edge. Cruise to Yichang through the three gorges of Qutang, Wu and Xiling, the most stunning stretch of river. Shore excursions include Shibaozhai, Wanzhou, Daning River or Shennong Stream and the Three Gorges Dam (subject to water levels and navigation authority advice.)

FRI: YICHANG/SHANGHAI
Disembark at Yichang and transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai for three nights at the Merry Hotel. Evening acrobatic show.
SAT-SUN: SHANGHAI
See the colonial concessions along the Bund for a spectacular view of Shanghai “yesterday and today”. Enjoy the sound and light show in the tunnel ride across the Huangpu River to Pudong, stopping at Jin Mao Tower, one of the world’s tallest buildings, for a breathtaking panorama. Stroll the twisting alleyways of Chinatown and visit Yu Garden, followed by a river cruise. Next morning visit the impressive Shanghai Museum and Xintiandi, a restored area of ‘shikumen’ houses and the site of the 1st National Communist Party Congress.
