Days Datong - Wutaishan - Pingyao
Upon arrival in Datong, you will be met and transferred to Datong Hotel for overnight.
Today, explore some of the earliest examples of stone carvings at Yungang Buddhist Caves. These caves are decorated with figures and frescoes, once marking Datong as the cultural centre of China. Also visit the 1400-year old Hanging Monastery with its halls and pavilions built at varying heights along the contours of the cliff. Overnight at the Hua Hui Hotel.
Explore the charming and beautiful monastic village centred on Wutaishan This village is known as a treasure trove of temples with colourful buildings fine sculptures, frescoes and paintings. In the late afternoon, continue your journey to Pingyao where you will spend two nights at the hotel.
An interesting day to spend at this UNESCO World Heritage Site and a city surrounded by one of China’s few intact Ming city walls. A traditional Han Chinese city with town planning reminiscent of Imperial China, the city is exceptionally well-preserved and was once the banking centre. Pingyao has a wealth of courtyard houses, temples and more than 3000 historic shops A stop will be made at the Qiao Jia Dayuan, an exquisite courtyard house where the award-winning movie ‘Raise the Red Lantern’ was filmed.
