1

1: AUSTRALIA / OSAKA

Depart Sydney with Qantas Airways on an overnight flight to Osaka via Tokyo. Passengers from other capital cities will travel via Sydney to Osaka (via Tokyo).

2: ARRIVE IN OSAKA

On arrival at Osaka’s Kansai International Airport, you will be met and transferred to the hotel for one night at the Sarasa Hotel Nipponbashi or similar. Relax and enjoy the remainder of the day in this historic and vibrant city.

3: OSAKA / KOBE / KURASHIKI

Travel to Fukuyama with a stop just outside of Kobe, in a region famous for its sake production. Visit the famous Nadagiku Shuzo Sake Bewery and learn how traditional Japanese Sake is made. A stop will be made at Meriken Park before driving to Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. With its scenic canals lined with weeping willows, Edo-period gardens and historic merchant houses, the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter offers an authentic feel of the old Japan in the heart of one of the oldest merchant towns. Tonight, enjoy your traditional Japanese Welcome Dinner. Stay two nights in Fukuyama at the New Castle Hotel or similar.

4: FUKUYAMA / HIROSHIMA / FUKUYAMA

Drive to Miyajimaguchi for a short cruise to Miyajima to see the Itsukushima Shrine - a UNESCO World Heritage site that at high tide, appears to be floating on water. Continue to Hiroshima with a stop at Peace Memorial Park, located near the epicentre of the first atomic bomb. Gaze in wonder at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome), the only original structure left standing in the area. A stop will be made at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, featuring exhibitions of items related to the atomic bomb.

5: FUKUYAMA / OSAKA

Transfer to Osaka and visit the city’s famous landmark - Osaka Castle Garden - surrounded by greenery, the garden commands a splendid view of the castle tower and the stone wall of the moat. Enjoy some free time in Shinsaibasi, the prime shopping area in Osaka.

6: OSAKA / NARA / KYOTO

Travel to Nara, Japan’s first permanent capital established in 710. Visit Todai-ji Temple, an ancient 8th-century structure that houses some of Japan’s national treasures with 3000 antique bronze and stone lanterns. A stop will be made at Deer Park, one of the oldest parks in Japan and home to hundreds of free-roaming deer. We then continue on to Kyoto to visit the UNEWSO Heritage listing site - Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) where you will find the top two floors completely covered in gold leaves. Enjoy some free time to further explore this historical city. Stay one night at the Hotel Brighton City Yamashina. Optional Accommodation : Local Homestay – Must be booked & paid in advanced Visit and stay in a local home to experience the true essence of the Japanese lifestyle. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner (with local beer) and relax and pamper yourself at the hot springs. Cost: $300 per person twin share/ $600 for single occupancy.

7: KYOTO / HAMAMATSU

This morning visit Fushimi Inari Taisha, an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead in to the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 metres and belongs to the shrine’s grounds. Spend one night at the Grand Hotel Hamamatsu or similar.

8: HAMAMATSU / MT FUJI / LAKE ASHI / TOKYO

Drive to Shizuoka city, the capital of Japanese tea production and visit a local tea house. Continue on to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station that is located 2300 metres above sea level and offers a vantage point for Mt Fuji and the surrounding lakes (subject to weather conditions). The 5th Station also features shrines, torii gates, souvenir shops, and perhaps a few climbers completing their preparations for their ascent. Then drive to Lake Ashi, located nearby in Hakone National Park, to admire the scenery as you take a short cruise across the lake. The waters are overlooked by surrounding mountains, including Mt Fuji and Mt Komagatake. We then drive to Tokyo, the largest city and capital of Japan. Stay two nights at the Hotel Mystay Tachikawa or similar.

9: TOKYO

See the best of Tokyo today as you visit some of the city’s main shrines and shopping areas. First, we visit the Meiji Shrine, a key Shinto religious site that was dedicated to the Imperial Family in 1926. We then drive past the Japanese House of Parliament and to the Imperial Palace East Garden. This idyllic outdoor space, home to a traditional Japanese garden, tea pavilion, stone walls and a moat, is situated within the complex of an Edo-era castle. Continue on to Nakamise Shopping Street and Asakusa Kannon (Sensoji) Temple, one of Japan’s most important Buddhist sites. Explore the neontinged streets of the Ginza district, a premier shopping destination of department stores and cinemas. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

10: TOKYO / AUSTRALIA

Day at leisure till late afternoon, your tour comes to an end today as you are transferred to the airport for your overnight flight home.
