Today visit Beijing’s most significant sights – start in the heart of the city at Tiananmen Square and continue to the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace and China’s most impressive architectural complex. After
lunch, visit the Temple of Heaven and meet the locals at this large and pleasant park. Enjoy a performance of ‘The legend of Kung Fu’ this evening.

Visit China’s most iconic symbol, the Great Wall. Once you set foot on the wall, you will be immersed by the longest, oldest and most labour-intensive projects in mankind’s history. En-route, stop at a Jade carving workshop to learn about Chinese Jade Culture. Then head to the Summer Palace and spend your afternoon strolling through the well preserved royal garden.

This morning explore by cycle rickshaw through the ‘hutongs’ – ‘the back alleys’ which reveals the charm of old Beijing. Your lunch will be arranged at one of the local family homes where you can obtain a glimpse into
their lifestyle. Rest of the day at leisure. This evening, enjoy the local speciality, a Peking Duck Dinner.

Transfer to the train station to board your train to Datong, staying one night at the Datong Hotel.

See some of the earliest examples of stone carvings at Yungang Buddhist Caves and visit the 1400 year old Hanging Monastery with its halls and pavilions built along the contours of the cliff. This afternoon travel to Wutaishan, staying one night at the Huahui Hotel.

Morning to explore this charming monastic village with temples, colourful buildings, sculptures and frescoes. This afternoon, travel to Pingyao, staying two nights at the International Financier Club Hotel.

Surrounded by one of China’s few intact Ming city walls, Pingyao is a well-preserved town reminiscent of Imperial China. Today you will stroll around this ancient town and visit a Former Bank, Armed Escort Company Museum and the ancient City Wall.

Morning visit to Qiao Jia Dayuan, an exquisite courtyard house where the award winning movie ‘Raise the Red Lantern’ was filmed. After lunch transfer to the station for your high speed train to Xian, staying two nights at the Grand Noble Hotel.

Marvel at the amazing archaeological wonders – the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the Chariot Exhibition and the modern Shaanxi History Museum where you will find relics which dates back to prehistoric times. Enjoy a cultural show with dinner at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

Morning visit to the 14th Century Old City Wall which surrounds the old city. After lunch, transfer to the station for a relaxing train journey to Luoyang, staying two nights at the Lee Royal Hotel.

Visit the Longmen Grottoes, built in 494AD, comprising of more than 2100 caves and 100,000 Buddhist statues. Tour the White Horse Temple, China’s first place of Buddhist worship and stroll along the narrow streets that run between the ancient houses and markets.

Travel to the famous Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of martial arts and situated at the base of Mt. Songshan, one of China’s most sacred mountains. Enjoy an afternoon demonstration of martial arts by the Shaolin monks and this evening transfer to the open air theatre to watch the ‘Zen Music Shaolin Grand Ceremony’ (except in winter). Stay one night at the Chanwu Hotel.

Transfer to Zhengzhou Airport for your flight to Shanghai, staying three nights at the Central Hotel.

Spend a day exploring this gracious and cosmopolitan city. Travel to Pudong and stop at the soaring Jin Mao Tower for a breathtaking panorama of the city. See the former Colonial Concessions along the Bund for a view of the ‘yesterday & today’ of Shanghai. After a special dumplings lunch, take a stroll along the alleyways and markets of Old Chinatown, visit the finest traditional Yu Garden and enjoy a river cruise of the Huangpu River. This evening enjoy an acrobatic show.

Discover Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town with cobble stone lanes and well-preserved Ming and Qing buildings. Enjoy this charming and traditional town as you cruise along the canals and drift beneath stone arched bridges. End the day at Tianzi Fang where many artists and local designers have set up art studios and galleries – a great chance to shop at the boutiques or just relax at one of the street cafés. This evening, enjoy your farewell dinner.
